Alberta Ballet is proud to feature live music as part of our training. With a talented pianist in each ballet class, our teachers focus on engaging the class from start to finish, without ever skipping a beat.
Designed to foster a love for ballet in a safe, nurturing environment for children ages 6-11, our Children's Ballet Programming (Recreational, Experienced, Syllabus and Commercial Jazz) is outlined below.

Children's Recreational Program
Who is the Recreational Program for?
- Children ages 6-11 who are new to dance or are looking to get back into the studio after some time away
- Children who participate in other sports and are interesting in complementing their training by enhancing posture, balance and flexibility – all in a relaxed, enjoyable and accessible environment

Children’s Experienced Program
Who is the Experienced Program for?
- Children ages 6-12 who aim to build a strong ballet foundation and are ready to deepen their engagement of study
- Students who seek a training program that guides the development of safe and artistically skilled dancers

Dance Experience: Required
Time Commitment: Students in the Experienced Program attend 2 ballet classes per week. Students in the Experienced Level 3 or higher also attend 1 contemporary class per week.

Contemporary (Level 3 and above):
Once students advance to Level 3, a weekly contemporary class is added to their training. Contemporary class complements ballet with the exploration of different movement styles.
Syllabus Ballet (Optional):
**Please contact us for placing your child in a Syllabus class.
Students in Experienced Ballet Level 3 and up have the option to add Syllabus Ballet to their study. The syllabus class focuses on material required for RAD exams.
Syllabus Ballet is a requirement to be eligible for RAD exams. Syllabus Ballet is a great way to enhance their program and training. Students are not required to take the exam.
Commercial Jazz Technique (Optional):
This class is available for dancers registered in a full-year Children's Ballet or Teen Ballet program. Commercial Jazz Technique class is designed for dancers to explore different jazz styles and techniques to supplement their regular ballet studies. Set to contemporary music, dancers will explore different qualities and dynamics of movement.
Year End Performance Fee
A non-refundable production fee for the Year End Performance is included in full-year registrations. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes costs such as wardrobe, theatre rental, videographer and other costs associated with the performance at the Timms Centre for the Arts.
This fee does not include tickets to the performance.
