Teen Recreational  Program

Who is the Recreational Program for?

  • Teens ages 12-17 who are new to dance or are looking to get back into the studio after some time away
  • Teens who participate in other sports and are interesting in complementing their training by enhancing posture, balance and flexibility.

Level Breakdown

Teen Ballet 1 Recreational:

  • No experience required
  • Twice-per-week classes
  • Participation in Year End Performance

Teen Ballet 2 Recreational:

  • Some experience required (minimum of 2 years in Teen Recreational 1)
  • Twice-per-week classes
  • Participation in Year End Performance

High School Credit Program: Recreational students are eligible to participate in the High School Credit Program. See information below.

Teen Experienced Program

Who is the Experienced Program for?

  • Teens ages 12-17 who have a strong ballet foundation and are ready to deepen their engagement of study
  • Teens who seek a training program that guides the development of safe and artistically skilled dancers

Dance Experience: Previous dance training is required for the Experienced Program. Please contact us for assistance with class placement. 

Time Commitment: 2 ballet classes and 1 contemporary class per week. 

High School Credit Program: Experienced students are eligible to participate in the High School Credit Program. See information below.

*Students registered in the experienced program may be eligible to audition to perform in Alberta Ballet’s The Nutcracker and other productions containing children's casts.

Conditioning & Stretch (Optional)

-Available for dancers registered in any Full-Year Teen Ballet program-

This class complements ongoing training through targeted conditioning and guided stretching. Students will build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance overall alignment and control. With a focus on safe and effective technique, this class helps dancers refine their movement quality and supports continued progress in their ballet training. 

Commercial Jazz Technique (Optional)

-Available for dancers registered in any Full-Year Teen Ballet program-

Commercial Jazz Technique class is designed for dancers to explore different jazz styles and techniques to supplement their regular ballet studies. Set to contemporary music, dancers explore different qualities and dynamics of movement.

Syllabus Ballet (Optional)

- Available for Experienced Teen Students -

Students in Teen Experienced Programs have the option to add Syllabus Ballet to their study. The syllabus class focuses on material required for Cecchetti or RAD exams. Syllabus Ballet is a great way to enhance their program and training. Students are not required to take the exam.

High School Credit Program

This program encourages dance students to balance their extracurricular training with the more intense workload of high school. In the High School Credit program, students can apply up to 15 credits over 3 years towards their Alberta Education transcript. This program has proven a great approach to support our high school students in healthy pursuit of their goals.

Year End Performance Fee

A non-refundable production fee for the Year End Performance is included in full-year registrations. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes costs such as wardrobe, theatre rental, videographer and other costs associated with the performance at the Jubilee Auditorium.

This fee does not include tickets to the performance.
